Attention Teams - New Rules for Halfway Break

CARS Series PR

With the recent announcement of the omission of pit stops at all CARS Pro Cup races I would like to notify team owners, drivers and crew chiefs that during the red/black flag period crew members working on the car MUST be in a fire suit with helmet. Teams will be limited to FIVE crew members to go over the wall.  All crew members MUST remain behind pit wall until ALL race cars are on pit road and stopped in their pit boxes.  CARS Pro Cup officials will signal when crew members will be allowed over the wall. All rules per the rule book will apply for pit stops made at anytime during the course of the race. Also, during this period all drivers MUST remain inside the race car.  Helmet and safety buckles may be removed.  Additional rules changes will be addressed at the Driver/Crew Chief Meeting at Orange County Speedway during the May 5th event, followed by a Q&A session.

CARS Announces Race Procedure Changes

CARS Series PR

Mooresville, N.C. – Effective immediately, the CARS Pro Cup Series will abandon its live pit stop format in favor of a mid-race intermission at lap 125 during each event.

The decision is a cost-saving measure for teams currently involved in the series and in an effort to attract new teams. Beginning with the race at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C., on May 5, teams will no longer be required to provide full pit crews.

“It was a difficult decision for us to make, but I feel like this is the right decision for the future of the series,” said CARS Pro Cup Series Director Jack McNelly. “We have a few things in the works that will make the mid-race intermission just as interesting as live pit stops.”

One of those things involves the payout of the purse. The purse will be paid out in two segments, with the field at the end of the first segment receiving a “to-be-determined” percentage from the overall purse. The overall purse will not change.

“I know the drivers in this series. From lap 110 to lap 125 they are going to go as hard as they can to earn the money that will be paid out at halfway,” McNelly said.

Another change to the CARS Pro Cup Series format comes after the mid-race intermission. The first eight cars, if on the lead lap, could restart the race as they finished the first segment, they could be totally inverted with the leader of the first segment starting eighth, or the first eight teams may draw for their starting position in the second segment.

Young Takes Home Seven Contingency Awards After First Pro Cup Win

Mooresville, N.C. — Tyler Young kicked down the door to CARS Pro Cup Series victory lane last Saturday at Hickory Motor Speedway, winning the Catawba Valley 250 while earning seven contingency awards.

Young didn’t cruise to victory lane by any means. The Texas native had to hold off South Carolina’s Allen Purkhiser during a green-white-checkered restart. His cool demeanor in that high-tension situation earned Young the Cool Under Pressure Award presented by FLUIDYNE.

Wheeling the No. 02 Chevrolet from the pole, Young led a total of 92 laps Saturday night, earning him the Lap Leader Award presented by U-Pull U-Save. Young also took home the T&D Rocker Arms High Finisher Award, the Brake of the Race Award presented by Pro-System Brakes and product certificates from Cool Shirt, Brown & Miller and Staubli.

VP Racing Fuels Becomes Official Fuel Supplier of Pro Cup Series

Mooresville, N.C. – The CARS Pro Cup Series announced last week that VP Racing Fuels will be the Official Fuel Supplier for the 2012 season.

It was a decision months in the making, that started when Pro Cup President Jack McNelly attended the PRI Trade Show last December. After weeks of meetings, phone calls and emails, it was clearly evident that VP Racing Fuels was the best fuel partner for the series.

“We spent a great amount of time this off-season working with various fuel suppliers to find the one that was the best fit for our series. The more time we spent on the issue and the better we got to know everyone at VP, the decision was very easy to make. We are looking forward to a great season, with VP Racing providing our fuel,” said McNelly.

Teams will use the VP 110 Racing Fuel as the spec fuel for all 14 events.

Anderson Event Entry List Growing:  With the season opening Palmetto State 250 only nine days away, the entry list grows larger everyday.  A preliminary entry list will be released next week in advance of the event. Among the entries, is former Anderson Motor Speedway and Pro Cup veteran Allen Purkhiser.

Tickets for the Palmetto Cup 250, March 24 at Anderson Motor Speedway are available for purchase now at www.carsprocup.com. Fans ordering tickets online, in advance can save $3 off gate ticket prices. Tickets will be $15 at the gate on the day of the event.

Additional Contingency Sponsors for 2012: Four more contingency partners joined the Pro Cup Series this week.   For the 2012 season, Pro Cup Victory Lane will be titled the “Edelbrock Victory Lane,” as Edelbrock Racing has joined the Pro Cup Series roster of contingency partners. Also joining the expanding list of partners for 2012 include RE Suspensions, Pro Systems and Standout Wraps.
