Morgan Crowned Rev-Oil Pro Cup Champ

Rev-Oil Series PR

By Adam Fenwick, National Speed Sport News

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – J.P. Morgan was honored as the 2012 Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series champion during the series awards banquet Saturday night at the Charles Mack Citizen Center.

Morgan was recognized for claiming his first series championship in 2012. During his championship season he won seven of 14 races, finishing no worse than fourth throughout the course of the year.

“We are a very close team and very dedicated. That means a lot, that is very important,” Morgan said upon taking the stage to accept his championship trophy. “I’ve got to really thank (Series President) Jack McNelly. Everybody really knows, but without him taking an interest in the series and taking it on, from that day he has not wavered one bit."

“I appreciate everything you’ve done Jack as far as the series is concerned. Obviously if it wasn’t for you wanting to make this happen, it wouldn’t happen. I want to give you personal thanks for that,” Morgan said. READ MORE

Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Announces 2013 Season Schedule

Rev-Oil Series PR

Series Set to Return to Rockingham Paying $20,000 to Winner

Mooresville, NC 12/17/12- Officials from the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series are proud to announce the 2013 season schedule on the heels of a very successful “open house” event at the Charles Mack Citizen Center in downtown Mooresville, North Carolina last Friday night. The 2013 season will kick off on Saturday April 6th at the Dillon Motor Speedway in Dillon, South Carolina and feature fourteen total events with the first ten setting the stage for the annual four race championship series to crown a series champion.

From there the series schedule makes its first of two series stops at the Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, North Carolina on April 20th followed by a trip back to South Carolina at the Anderson Motor Speedway on May 4th. The state of Tennessee and Virginia welcomes the series respectively on May 17th at Kingsport Speedway and Motor Mile Speedway on June 8th. A summertime show on June 22nd at Myrtle Beach Speedway closes out the month of June, before the fans of the Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, North Carolina welcome the series for the first time of the season on July 13th.

The one question mark remaining on the 2013 schedule is Saturday July 27th as series officials are working on several different options to fill the date at a track that will be new to the series. An announcement in the coming weeks will give full details of the event slated for that date. Second trips to Anderson on August 10th and Kingsport on Sunday August 25th after the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Bristol will close out the regular season portion of the schedule setting the stage for the four race championship series. Orange County Speedway (September 14th), Southern National Motorsports Park (September 28th), and the Hickory Motor Speedway (October 19th) will all host the first three championship series events.

The highlight of the 2013 schedule comes at the season’s final event as the series joins both the UARA and the NASCAR K&N East Series at the one mile Rockingham Speedway in Rockingham, North Carolina to make up the “Classic 3 Championship” presented by The Richard Childress Racing Museum on November 2nd. Not only will the event decide the 2013 Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series champion, but it will pay $20,000 to the race winner making it the highest paying event of the year and the weekend.

Mooresville, NC 11/28/12- Plans for the 2013 Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series are beginning to take shape as officials are proud to announce that the Dillon (SC) Motor Speedway will host the 2013 season opening race on Saturday April 6th. The 2013 season will mark the second year of competition under the ownership of series president Jack McNelly as well as series title sponsor Revolution Oil.

In addition to announcing the season opening event at Dillon, the series will host a fourteen race schedule in 2013 paying $10,000 to win each and every event. The first ten points races will once again set the stage for the annual four race championship series to crown the 2013 champion. The complete series schedule will be announced on Friday December 14th as the series will host an open house discussing 2013 subject matter at the Charles Mack Citizen Center in Mooresville, North Carolina from 6-9pm. Drivers and teams considering competing in the 2013 Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series season are strongly encouraged to attend this event.

“We are excited about next season and kicking things off at the Dillon Motor Speedway. Track owner Ron Barfield and his group there are great to work with, and the racing at Dillon’s egg shaped facility should make for an exciting start to the new year,” stated series president Jack McNelly. “We’ve increased our purse to $10,000 to win at every race next year, and with last season having had seven different winners throughout the year we expect the competition to increase across the board in 2013 for both old and new teams alike to take home a healthy amount of prize money.”

Champion Morgan Grabs Four Contingency Awards At Orange County

Mooresville, N.C. — J.P. Morgan wanted to close the 2012 Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series season in victory lane and thanks to a timely caution Saturday night at Orange County Speedway, he was able to do just that.

Morgan, the 2012 Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series champion, was running second to race-long leader Stacy Puryear on lap 229 when Allen Purkhiser blew a tire in turns one and two and hit the wall.

While it was bad luck for Purkhiser, it turned out to be good luck for Morgan. On the ensuing restart Morgan used a great run on the outside to overtake Puryear, eventually pulling away to his seventh series victory of the year.

For that bit of great luck and great driving, Morgan has been awarded the Brake of the Race Award presented by Pro-System Brakes. Morgan also earned the T&D Rocker Arms High Finisher Award and product certificates from Brown & Miller and Cool Shirt.

While Puryear failed to win Saturday’s finale at Orange County, he didn’t go home empty handed. His great performance and eventual second-place finish Saturday also earned him four contingency awards.

Championship Season Nearly Complete For J.P. Morgan

Rev-Oil Pro Cup Veteran Hopes To Finish 2012 Season In Winning Form

By Adam Fenwick – adam@revoilprocup.com, Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director

ROUGEMONT, N.C. – J.P. Morgan simply has to start Saturday’s Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series The Championship 250 at Orange County Speedway to secure his first series championship.

That doesn’t mean he is resting on his laurels.

The six-time race winner in 2012 has plans to make his seventh visit to victory lane Saturday night at Orange County, where he picked up his sixth victory of the year on Sept. 1.

“I want to win Orange County,” Morgan said plainly. “I don’t want to end up not winning there because we ran so good there in the earlier race this season with a win there. I’d really like to finish it off there two-for-two.”

A victory Saturday would certainly be a perfect ending to a near perfect season for the 36-year-old racer. He started off the year with a victory at Anderson Motor Speedway in Williamston, S.C., and then rattled off four-straight victories during the summer months.

In addition to his six victories this year, Morgan has finished in the top-five in all 13 races, scored two poles and has an average finish of 1.8. A victory Saturday would certainly be the proverbial cherry on top of the championship sundae.

“We’ve been talking about it and talking about it,” Morgan said when asked about the 2012 championship. “It is kind of setting in with the guys after the last race that we had a good shot of clinching this deal coming into Hickory. You can tell everybody is starting to think championship.
