Rhodes Has Momentum, Experience On His Side

By Adam Fenwick – adam@carsprocup.com - CARS Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director

RADFORD, Va. – It’s fair to say that Harrison Rhodes may have a bit of an advantage heading into this Saturday’s CARS Pro Cup Series Highway Motors/Heritage International 250 at Motor Mile Speedway.

Rhodes has already raced there three times this year in late-model stock-car competition, earning a best finish of fifth there May 19. That goes along with seven starts in extra distance events at the .416-mile asphalt oval last season.

“(The track) is about two and a half hours away, but it has kind of become our home track just because we like racing there and we like the people that work there and we like the track,” said Rhodes, a rookie in the CARS Pro Cup Series this year. “The track is real smooth and it’s not too worn out, so you’ve got a lot of grip and a pretty good amount of banking. It’s definitely one of the most fun tracks I’ve been to.”

Entering only his fourth CARS Pro Cup Series event, Rhodes carries with him the momentum of finishing fourth in his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut last Saturday night at Bowman Gray Stadium. He hopes that, combined with his extensive experience at Motor Mile, will make for an exciting night this Saturday.

“I actually have to go to my high school graduation that morning, so I might end up missing a good amount of practice,” Rhodes said. “I definitely think the experience will help me a little bit so I won’t have to get use to the track.”

Pro Cup Racing Into Holiday Weekend At Ace

Pre-Race Concert, Fireworks All Part Of The Show This Saturday

By Adam Fenwick – adam@carsprocup.com - CARS Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director

ALTAMAHAW, N.C. – The CARS Pro Cup Series will celebrate Memorial Day weekend in style this Saturday with a party like no other at Ace Speedway.

Not only will the top drivers from the CARS Pro Cup Series be battling it out for 250 laps at the four-tenths-mile asphalt oval, but fans in attendance will also be treated to a free pre-race concert and a post-race fireworks show.

Local favorites Too Far Gone will perform prior to the start of Saturday’s All-American 250 Pro Cup event. Led by the brother-sister combo of Carri and Jason Smithey, these country rockers are ready to put on a show for the fans this Saturday.

Following the action on the track, fans will then be treated to action above it as Zambelli, Intl. presents a Memorial Day fireworks show.

Of course, we can’t forget about the actual racing that’ll be going on at Ace Saturday. Championship leader J.P. Morgan will lead the CARS Pro Cup Series into Ace Speedway for the eighth time in series history.

Morgan started from the pole last year at Ace Speedway, but an late in the race eliminated him from contention after he’d led 130 laps. This year, Morgan will be looking for redemption.

Tyler Young will also be looking to better his luck at Ace Speedway this year. Last year the rear end in Young’s No. 02 Chevrolet failed, ending his night early. He’ll be looking to make his second trip this year to CARS Pro Cup victory lane Saturday.

All-American 250 at Ace Speedway on May 26

Event to Include Pre-Race Concert, Concession Specials and Post-Race Fireworks

Mooresville, N.C. – The CARS Pro Cup Series will be racing Memorial Day weekend at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C., on Saturday, May 26.

As part of the Memorial Day festivities, a pre-race concert featuring Alamance County’s own Too Far Gone will take place at 6 p.m. on the track’s front stretch. Fans will also be treated to $1 hot dogs, $1 soft drinks and $2 beer all night long, followed by fireworks presented by Zambelli, Intl.

The event, known as the CARS Pro Cup Series All-American 250 will feature 250 laps of intense racing action as well as a halfway break. During that halfway break, series officials will draw one of three envelopes that will decide how to start the second half of the race.

The top eight lead-lap cars will either be inverted, start the second half of the race how they finished the first half, or draw numbered ping-pong balls for their starting spot. No one, not the drivers nor the fans, will know which of the three options will be selected, making the second half of the event unpredictable and entertaining for the fans.

CARS Pro Cup Set For Return To Orange County

Strutmasters 250 Marks First Pro Cup Event Held At Orange County Since 1997

By Adam Fenwick – adam@carsprocup.com, CARS Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director

AJ Frank and Gus Dean talk before the Anderson race.Rougemont, N.C. — A lot has changed since the last time the CARS Pro Cup Series raced at North Carolina’s Orange County Speedway in 1997.

In 1997, Bill Clinton was the President of the United States, Facebook and Twitter didn’t yet exist and 2012 CARS Pro Cup Series Rookie Gus Dean wasn’t even three years old.

Ironically, Dean may head into Saturday’s Strutmasters 250 with an advantage over series veterans like J.P. Morgan, A.J. Frank and Tyler Young. At young age of 17, Dean has raced at Orange County several times and knows the track very well.

“[Orange County] is a little rough in the corners and there are certain lines that’ll work and there are certain lines that you’ll have to work through,” Dean said. “It just really depends on the track temperature as to which of those lines might work.”

Dean believes his experience at the three-eighths-mile asphalt oval, which includes a victory in the Allison Legacy Series, will give him a leg-up over his competitors this Saturday.

“I know where the bumps and the ruts are on the track,” Dean said. “We do have a feature win in the Allison Legacy Series at Orange County. We’re no stranger to it and I feel very confident heading into this weekend.”

Frank Seeking More Magic At Historic Hickory

Tyler Young Looking For Redemption After Dominating At Hickory In October

By Adam Fenwick – adam@carsprocup.com,  CARS Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director

Hickory, N.C. — For CARS Pro Cup Series veteran A.J. Frank, Saturday’s Catawba Valley 250 at Hickory Motor Speedway will likely be more important than any other race on the 2012 schedule.

Why? Because last October Frank earned his first CARS Pro Cup Series victory at the historic .363-mile asphalt oval. The South Carolina native is bursting with confidence as he prepares to return to the site of his first series victory.

“I’m feeling really confident about it for sure,” Frank said. “I haven’t been in a race car at all since Rockingham last year. I’m very anxious to get behind the wheel again.”

Frank, driving the No. 6 for Abold Motorsports, lead the final 16 laps last October to win the Catawba County United Way 200. He’ll be returning to Hickory with the same team and the same race car that brought him to victory lane that night.

As far as competition goes for Saturday’s race, Frank said that he has his eyes on Texas native Tyler Young. The driver of the No. 02 Chevrolet dominated at Hickory last October, leading 98 laps after starting on the pole before engines issues sidelined him late in the event.

New Year Brings New Beginnings For CARS Pro Cup Series

By Adam Fenwick – adam@carsprocup.com - CARS Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director

Saturday’s Palmetto State 250 Marks Series Debut at Anderson Motor Speedway

Anderson, S.C. — A new racing season is set to begin for the CARS Pro Cup Series, and with it comes many new faces and many changes to the popular stock-car series.

There is a new man in charge of the series, Series Director Jack McNelly, and the series also has a new name. There are several new names joining the series this year, including drivers Gus Dean, Cody McMahan, Harrison Rhodes, Dalton Hopkins and Nathan Russell.

The series also has a number of new partners this year, including new tire supplier Goodyear and new fuel supplier VP Racing Fuels. Last, but certainly not least, the series will be making its historic first visit to Anderson Motor Speedway this Saturday for the season opening Palmetto State 250.

While a lot has changed this season for the CARS Pro Cup Series, one thing hasn’t changed. The CARS Pro Cup Series still presents one of the best short-track racing shows in the country.

“For the most part it [the series] has a lot of up and coming potential stars,” said defending series champion Jeff Agnew. “Everybody is putting a lot of effort into it to put on a big show. The guys are coming to the race track with well prepared, really good competitive cars.
