Magical Pro Cup Debut For Jeb Burton

Virginia Native Grabs First Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Victory

By Adam Fenwick – adam@carsprocup.com, Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director

Radford, Va. – Jeb Burton made his Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series debut a memorable one, outdueling J.P. Morgan to win the Heritage Truck Centers 250 at Motor Mile Speedway Saturday night.

Burton, son of 2002 Daytona 500 winner Ward Burton, was fastest in all three practice sessions and qualified fourth for the 250-lap event. He took the lead for the first time on lap 52 when race leader Caleb Holman’s engine expired.

Wheeling the No. 33 Chevrolet, Burton held on to the lead until lap 118 when Morgan found his way around to take the lead for the first time. Morgan stayed out front through the end of the first half of the race.

Following the 10-minute halfway break Morgan restarted with the lead, but Burton quickly snatched it away on lap 128. Burton led with Morgan behind him until a caution flag on lap148. On the restart Morgan made his move, driving around Burton on the high side.

Burton didn’t let Morgan get away, staying glued to the bumper of the No. 23 Chevrolet lap after lap. Finally, with less than 30 laps left, Burton began to pressure Morgan for the lead. With 25 laps left Burton got alongside Morgan, but couldn’t complete the pass.

That wasn’t the end of the battle. Burton took another shot at Morgan on lap 230, taking the lead for the final time. From there he simply pulled away from Morgan, who ended up settling for second.

Rookie Nathan Russell Ready For Motor Mile

Pennsylvania Native Seeking First Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Triumph

By Adam Fenwick – adam@carsprocup.com - Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director

RADFORD, Va. – It has been a bit of an up and down season for Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Rookie of the Year contender Nathan Russell.

The year started off on a high note when the 21-year-old from Curwensville, Pa., scored a second-place finish at South Carolina’s Anderson Motor Speedway. Since then, things haven’t exactly gone as planned.

“We started out real well at the beginning of the season,” Russell said. “Then we kind of just fought with engine problems until it finally gave out and blew up in practice at Orange County (on Sept. 1).”

Russell managed to start the race at Orange County Speedway, but he had to park after two laps. On the plus side, his No. 26 Chevrolet now has a freshly rebuilt engine in it that he hopes will pay dividends when the series heads to Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va., for the Heritage Truck Centers 250 this Saturday.

“Now the motor is completely rebuilt and updated so we should be ready to go for the Championship Series,” Russell said.

Championship Series Next For Pro Cup Regulars

J.P. Morgan, Tyler Young Lead List of Championship Contenders

By Adam Fenwick – adam@revoilprocup.com,  Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director

Mooresville, N.C. – There is no doubt that J.P. Morgan has been the man to beat this season in the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series.

Morgan, driver of the No. 23 J&R Racing Chevrolet, has been nearly unstoppable this season. Through 10 events, Morgan has garnered six victories, 10 top fives, 10 top 10s, two poles and an average finish of 1.7.

But with the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Championship Series set to begin at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va., on Sept. 22, none of that matters one bit. What once was a 301-point lead over Tyler Young in the championship standings is now just 15 points following the Championship Series points reset.

“It’s great to be in first, that’s what we’ve been working on all year,” Morgan said. “With the reset of the points it really tightens things up, especially between Tyler and myself. It’s going to be a tough battle. He has turned the corner and gotten his stuff running really well in the last couple of races. I know they’re going to be really tough.”

A veteran of 84 starts in the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series, this is far from Morgan’s first rodeo. He came up just short in the championship standings in 2009, finishing second to Clay Rogers. This year, Morgan has gone from the hunter to the hunted.

“I couldn’t ask for a much better season then we’ve had so far,” Morgan said. “I think we’re going to have to continue doing what we’ve been doing and that is bring the best possible car to the race track.

“We feel like we’ve got our cars at the top of our game and our team is hitting on all cylinders going into the Championship Series. We’re starting in the lead and that means we are the ones being chased. I think that is a good position to be in,” Morgan said.

For second-place Young, a native of Midland, Texas, winning the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series championship would be an amazing accomplishment. However, he knows exactly how hard doing that is going to be.

“Young Gun” Gus Dean Making A Name For Himself In Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series

Pro Cup Rookie Ready For Championship Series

Bluffton, S.C. – Sept. 6, 2012 – One can only wonder if Gus Dean had run the full Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series schedule this year, where he would be sitting in the point standings after delivering many stout performances in 2012.

Dean, the 18-year-old rookie out of Bluffton, S.C., has run only eight of the 10 races this year and enters the Championship Series on the heels of five top-three and six top-10 finishes and finds himself fifth in points.

The team and driver are getting stronger each week. Leading more than 80 laps in the last event at Orange County, it seems that his first victory is getting closer. Beginning at Motor Mile Speedway on Sept. 22, the points will be reset. That marks the beginning of the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Championship Series, which is very much like NASCAR’s “Chase.”

This will put Dean back within 55 points of series leader J.P. Morgan and five points behind rookie leader Nathan Russell. Even though he will start at a deficit, Dean seems poised and ready.

Sixth Victory Nets J.P. Morgan Six More Contingency Awards

Mooresville, N.C. — Six may be J.P. Morgan’s lucky number.

The Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series championship leader won his sixth event of the season Saturday night at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, N.C., a victory that netted him six contingency awards.

Morgan was a non-factor throughout the first 125 laps of the event because something was wrong with his No. 23 J&R Racing Chevrolet. He wasn’t sure what it was, but he and his crew didn’t panic. They waited until the halfway break, where they were able to diagnose the problem as a faulty tire.

Calm and collected, Morgan now had all he needed to dominate the remaining 125 laps of the Revolution Oil 250 presented by Puryear Race Parts. For his cool and calm approach to diagnosing the problem with his No. 23 Chevrolet, Morgan has been awarded the Cool Under Pressure Award presented by FLUIDYNE.

Morgan also earned the Brake of the Race Award presented by Pro-Systems Brakes, the Lap Leader Award presented by U-Pull, U-Save, the T&D Rocker Arms High Finisher Award and product certificates from Brown & Miller and Cool Shirt.

Magic Number Six For J.P. Morgan

Rev-Oil Pro Cup Championship Leader Cruises To Victory At Orange County

By Adam Fenwick - adam@revoilprocup.com - Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director

Rougemont, N.C. – Well, that drought didn’t last long.

One week after having a four-race winning streak snapped at Kingsport (Tenn.) Speedway, J.P. Morgan picked up his sixth Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series triumph of the season Saturday night at Orange County Speedway during the Revolution Oil 250 presented by Puryear Race Parts.

Morgan and the No. 23 J&R Racing team were non-factors in the first 125 laps of the event. Tyler Young and rookie Gus Dean swapped the lead multiple times during the first 125 laps, but Dean was scored as the leader at the halfway break after bypassing Young on lap 113.

At that point Morgan was running fourth and was struggling just to keep up with the lead cars.

“I think we might have had a valve stem or a valve core going bad (in the first half),” Morgan said post-race. “We were losing pressure back there and it made the car tight and I used up the tires trying to drive it.”
