Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Offseason “Rumor Mill” presented by CV Products (Issue #5)

ADDITIONAL VETERANS BACK IN ‘13

-Early registration has now concluded but teams still planning to compete in 2013 can still register their car numbers and driver via mail or fax after downloading the appropriate paperwork via the series website at www.revoilprocup.com. Teams may also come by the series office and register in person at 177 Knob Hill Rd. Mooresville, NC 28117.   

 

-Several returning faces from a season ago will once again be on tour with the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series in 2013. Joey Jones and Stacy Puryear, piloting a car out of the Wes Gonder Racing (WGR) stables, have both filed their registrations with the series and made their plans to compete once again. Joey Jones will again fly the #53 on the side of his Jones Sitework Inc. Chevrolets, while WGR will make the switch from the familiar #33 to #17 for the upcoming season.

 

-Seventy-one year (71) year old veteran Mike Williams, a series competitor since the 2001 season, will also be back with the series in 2013 with a new car he purchased from fellow series car owner Wes Gonder this off season. The face of “old school racing”; Williams has made thirty-three starts over his Pro Cup Series career all coming along the way while fielding his own car and building his own engines. The same can be said about the year ahead.    

 
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
-Pro System Brakes and Air Flow Research are a pair of returning supporters once again this season. Air Flow Research, will sponsor the 2013 Rookie of the Year honors, awarding $3,000 cash to the highest finishing registered rookie in the final championship standings at the season ending banquet. In addition to the above mentioned returning sponsors, CV Products has joined the series as the official presenting sponsor of the Pro Cup Series Facebook page, as well as the current “Rumor Mill” article during the offseason that will then transfer to the “Series Notebook” during season.

ADDITIONAL DRIVERS, ADDITIONAL COMPETITION

 

-Registration for the 2013 season is ramping up with several drivers and teams taking advantage of receiving the cost of their driver’s license fee waived when they register their team and car number before Thursday, January 31, 2013.
 
-Coleman Pressley, son of former NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series winner Robert Pressley, has registered the #59 with the series with plans to compete in 2013. The younger Pressley was the 2010 UARA Series and has made several NASCAR Nationwide Series starts with his best finish of 12th coming at Nashville Superspeedway driving for JR Motorsports in 2010.
 
-The 2012 series champion J.P. Morgan will be back again to defend his title in 2013 once again piloting the #23 SoldbyJackieMorgan.com Chevy Impala throughout the entire fourteen race campaign. Last season, Morgan scored wins in seven of the fourteen events never finishing worse than fourth en route to his championship.

VETERAN AND ROOKIE IN 2013

 

-Registration for the 2013 season is ramping up with several drivers and teams taking advantage of receiving the cost of their driver’s license fee waived when they register their team and car number before Thursday January 31, 2013.
 
-Tyler Young becomes the first full time driver from the 2012 season to register for the 2013 season. Young, originally from Midland, Texas before relocating to North Carolina, scored his first career series victory last season at Hickory on April 21. Young will be back with the series once again for a majority of the 2013 schedule in addition to several NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts.
 

-Brady Boswell continues the series expansion of drivers hailing from the state of Georgia in 2013. Boswell from Watkinsville, Georgia will pilot his family owned Boswell Motorsports #2 machines for the entire 2013 Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series campaign.

DRIVERS IN THE FOLD

 

-Registration for the 2013 season is ramping up with several drivers and teams taking advantage of receiving the cost of their driver’s license fee waived when they register their team and car number before Thursday January 31, 2013.
 
-New Jersey native and former NASCAR K&N East Series regular Rich Gould, now living in China Grove, NC, has purchased a Pro Cup car from series team owner Wes Gonder Racing whom he made two starts with in 2012. Gould will pilot the #58 Rich Gould Racing machine in 4-5 events in 2013 with the possibility of additional drivers filling the seat in select races.
 
-A pair of drivers who competed in over half the races in 2012 have each filed their registration with the series for the 2013 campaign. Youngster Gus Dean (#56) of Blufton, SC returns to the series after notching a pair of career best second place finishes on two different occasions at Dillon and Tri County a season ago. Veteran racer Bill Plemons Jr. (#15) is the first registered driver from the state of Georgia (Locust Grove, GA) for the 2013 season with other expected to be on the way as the series continues its heavily anticipated growth.

Morgan Crowned Rev-Oil Pro Cup Champ

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – J.P. Morgan was honored as the 2012 Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series champion during the series awards banquet Saturday night at the Charles Mack Citizen Center.

Morgan was recognized for claiming his first series championship in 2012. During his championship season he won seven of 14 races, finishing no worse than fourth throughout the course of the year.

“We are a very close team and very dedicated. That means a lot, that is very important,” Morgan said upon taking the stage to accept his championship trophy. “I’ve got to really thank (Series President) Jack McNelly. Everybody really knows, but without him taking an interest in the series and taking it on, from that day he has not wavered one bit."

“I appreciate everything you’ve done Jack as far as the series is concerned. Obviously if it wasn’t for you wanting to make this happen, it wouldn’t happen. I want to give you personal thanks for that,” Morgan said. READ MORE

DRIVERS IN THE FOLD

-Registration for the 2013 season is in full swing with teams receiving the cost of their driver’s license fee waived when they register their team and car number before Thursday January 31, 2013. Veteran driver Rusty Skewes hailing from Bluefield, WV was the first driver to register for the 2013 season choosing #41 to fly on the side of the his Top Gun Motorsports machines.

 

-Four time series champion (2004, 2006, 2009, 2010) Clay Rogers of Mooresville, NC has also confirmed to series officials that he and L&R Racing, based in Chesapeake, VA, have teamed back up to compete in the series in 2013. Rogers and company won the 2010 championship together winning seven races in the process.

 
-JMI Motorsports based in Mooresville, NC has registered #39 for the 2013 season with drivers C.J. Faison and Mark McFarland expected to split time behind the wheel. Faison, who also competes in the NASCAR K&N East Series, under the leadership of former Pro Cup Series regular McFarland will compete in select races in 2013. McFarland will also return to the driver’s seat trading in a headset for his driver’s helmet on several occasions this season for the team.
 
NEW SERIES OFFICE LOCATION
-Drivers and teams wishing to register in person should note that the Pro Cup Series offices have moved to 177 Knob Hill Rd in Mooresville, NC right next door to Leavitt Racing Components. Offseason office hours are 9-5pm Monday through Friday as preparations are underway for the 2013 racing season.
 
CELEBRATING THE 2012 SEASON
-The series banquet celebrating J.P Morgan’s 2012 series championship is just a couple days away on Saturday January 12th at the Charles Mack Citizen Center in downtown Mooresville, NC starting at 6pm. In addition to Morgan, Rookie of the Year winner Dalton Hopkins will be recognized as well as the top five in the 2012 season points standings.

Rev-Oil Pro Cup Team Owner Steve Husketh Passes Away

We're sorry to have to report more sad news for Pro Cup teams, fans, and supporters. This afternoon, longtime team owner Steve Husketh passed away after an extended illness.

Steve's team, Premiere Motorsports #68, and his driver for many years, Allen Purkhiser, were able to visit Victory Lane twice in the 2012 season with Steve there to celebrate with them.

Pro Cup Series owner Jack McNelly and the entire Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series extends its condolences to the Husketh family and friends. We will miss Steve around the track and are grateful for his support and involvement in the Pro Cup Series over the years.
