Racing Veteran Happy To Be Back In Rev-Oil Pro Cup SeriesBy Adam Fenwick – adam@carsprocup.com, Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Public Relations Director
Rougemont, N.C. – Orange County Speedway is a track that Virginia’s Stacy Puryear knows plenty about.
Puryear, a native of South Boston, Va., was the 2008 track champion in the late-model stock division at the three-eighths-mile venue. He is hoping that his extensive experience there will equal success during Saturday’s Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Revolution Oil 250 presented by Puryear Race Parts.
The veteran racer returned to the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series this year after a six-year hiatus, wheeling the No. 36 Chevrolet owned by Wes Gonder. Saturday’s event will be his first in a Pro Cup car at Orange County.
“Orange County is a very fast short-track,” Puryear said. “Corner speeds are extremely fast there. You’re going to have to have a good turning race car and it’ll have to be hooked up off the corner, that’s for sure.”
This weekend could be a turning point for Puryear and the entire Wes Gonder Racing team, as Puryear considers Orange County his favorite race track. His success there certainly backs that up.
“We’ve probably won 20 late-model stock-car races there,” Puryear estimated. “We want to go out and we want to win the race at Orange County. I’m going to be disappointed in anything less than a top-two.
“I’m just ecstatic to be back in the Pro Cup Series. The Pro Cup Series is something I never wanted to get away from. It’s such a great series,” Puryear continued. “I really want to thank Wes Gonder for giving me an opportunity to drive his race car.”
Others that are also on the entry list for Saturday’s Revolution Oil 250 presented by Puryear Race Parts are championship leader and five-time race winner this year J.P. Morgan, Hickory Motor Speedway winner Tyler Young, Ace Speedway winner Allen Purkhiser, rookie contenders Gus Dean, Nathan Russell and Gus Dean as well as the returning Rusty Skewes. Gates for Saturday’s Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Revolution Oil 250 presented by Puryear Race Parts will open at 5 p.m., with qualifying scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Qualifying for the Allison Legacy Series and Rolling Thunder Modified Series will follow Pro Cup qualifying.
An on-track autograph session will run from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., with driver introductions and pre-race ceremonies scheduled to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. The green flag for the Revolution Oil 250 presented by Puryear Race Parts is expected to wave at 7:45 p.m.
The Allison Legacy Series and Rolling Thunder Modified Series will both race following the conclusion of the Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series 250-lap feature. Tickets for Saturday’s event will be $12 at the gate and only $2 for kids 12 years old and under!.
