This will be the Pro Cup Series eighth visit to the 4/10 mile oval in Altamahaw, NC. Most recently, Caleb Holman won at Ace Speedway last season.
Pro Cuppers to Take on the Rock: Pro Cup Series regulars Jeff Agnew, Caleb Holman and Tyler Young will all be in Rockingham this weekend for the NASCAR Truck Series race this Sunday.
All three ran the Pro Cup season ending race at Rockingham last November with each posting a top-ten finish.
Five Questions with CARS Pro Cup Series President Jack McNelly
Overall state of the series as you head to Hickory?
Jack McNelly: “We are definitely on the upswing. Our efforts at marketing and branding with both traditional media and social media are starting to make a difference, which we should start see the results of soon. We added a good number of quality partners this year and will continue to do so all season. We will get better each and every event in terms of the size of our crowds and car counts and really have something to build on this season. ”
Impressions from the season opener in Anderson?
JM: “It would be a mistake to say I wasn’t disappointed in the car count, but I am not discouraged. We know the cars and teams are out there, we simply need to work harder to get them out to the track. As far as the track itself goes, you couldn’t ask for better people to work with than the Porter family in Anderson. The race itself was very competitive, a great show for the fans and a good building block for both the series and our teams as they make adjustments to the 2012 changes.”
Favorite thing about the Pro Cup Series?
JM: “The competitive field of cars and how absolutely competitive our events are. With teams and cars that are so close each week it is very close up and down the grid each week. We also have a very good mixture of teams that have seasoned veterans and up and coming drivers looking to use Pro Cup as a stepping stone.”
Hometown & Family?
AP: “I was born and raised outside of Pittsburgh. My wife, Mary and I raised our kids Liz and John there, and spent most of our life there, until and we all moved to Mooresville and went into racing full-time. ”
Hobbies outside of racing?
AP: “I love football, especially college football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Other than racing and football I spend time with my family – a little bit of traveling, but mostly time at home together with our four labs.”
