17 Pro Cup Alumni Entered in the Weekends Daytona Events
Mooresville, N.C. – Seventeen former CARS Pro Cup Series drivers are entered in NASCAR events this weekend at Daytona International Speedway. These 17 drivers account for 310 starts and 39 wins in Pro Cup competition.
Leading the way is former Pro Cup champion Benny Gordon. He has to his credit 112 Pro Cup starts and 32 wins, which puts him second on the all-time Pro Cup win list behind Bobby Gill. Gordon is entered in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race.
Other notables include defending Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne (39 starts, three wins) and Joey Logano (33 starts, three wins). Bayne, Logano and James Buescher (23 starts, zero wins) are entered in two events each this weekend.
Four drivers with Pro Cup experience are entered in the Daytona 500. Joining Bayne and Logano will be Daytona 500 rookie Landon Cassill and defending Southern 500 winner Regan Smith.
Eight drivers with Pro Cup experience are entered in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race, with an additional eight entered in Friday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series opener.
Also competing this weekend in the NASCAR Nationwide Series is CARS Pro Cup team owner Eric McClure.
With this many alumni competing in stock car racing’s biggest weekend, there can be no doubt that the CARS Pro Cup Series is still one of the preeminent developmental series in all of racing and it’s motto rings true now as much as ever - CARS Pro Cup Series: STARS of Today, CHAMPIONS of Tomorrow.
CARS Pro Cup Attends RPM Workshops: Also in Daytona Beach, Fla., this week is CARS Pro Cup President Jack McNelly, who is attending the 39th annual RPM Promoters Workshops. The annual event brings together race track promoters, industry leaders and suppliers for three days of networking, information sessions, Q&A’s and seminars.
“It is always productive and educational anytime you meet with so many industry executives in one place,” said McNelly. “The Pro Cup Series is always looking to strengthen our relationships as well as build new ones. We are excited to get back home and continue preparations for our season opener, March 24th at Anderson Speedway.”
